Formen als Elemente : Elemente als Formen (Forms as Elements : Elements as Forms), 2007

The neon work Formen als Elemente : Elemente als Formen was my first large wall work; it was created for the exhibition Zeichnung heute V at the Kunstmuseum Bonn (2007). It consisted of nine neon elements varying in height (160–220 cm) and width (20–140 cm), which together extended along a wall around eight meters long. Because the ensemble was installed at the viewers’ eye level, they stood “in the work,” so to speak, but without being overwhelmed by it. For the neon elements I took the tube with the smallest possible diameter, just 10 mm thick, so that the work is still legible as a drawing. The formal vocabulary for Formen als Elemente : Elemente als Formen was generated from the configurations of the Rheinland drawing series, which was also shown in the exhibition Zeichung heute V at the Kunstmuseum Bonn.

Technique: neon wall piece
Materials: fluorescent tubes, diameter 10 mm, color: white, 9 elements
Dimensions: 200 x 800 cm
